Biologique Recherche – Haul [365 to 40]

I’ve had an interest in this brand for quite awhile now and finally decided to take the plunge and treat myself for my birthday. Who doesn’t love French skincare? I know I do. Biologique Recherche is a spa-grade French skincare line that specializes in high-end personalized care with products that focus on the epidermis to create the ideal surface for youthful, radiant skin. These products have high concentrations of botanical, marine and biological extracts. There are no artificial fragrances so as to preserve the formulaic integrity to minimize or avoid allergic reactions. One key feature of this skincare line is that the original structure of the active ingredients is preserved and most are cold formulations made to be used with cold water.

Lotion P50V is a gentle, balancing, vitamin-rich exfoliator that tones and lightens the skin. It is phenol-free and is recommended for less toned and/or devitalized skin.
How to use: In the first week it is advised to saturate moistened cotton pads (moisten with water) with Lotion P50V and apply to the face, neck, and cleavage. After the first week saturate dry cotton pads with the lotion and apply. The lotion can be applied to the eye area once or twice a week. I got the smallest size (1.7 oz) for $28. The goal of this lotion is to gently exfoliate and balance the epidermis.

I have used up all the samples to date and enjoyed them. I did not have any reactions to any of the products.
Lait VIP O2 – This is referred to as the “antipollution” cleanser eliminates impurities, calms the epidermis, brightens and unifies the complexion. It is ideal for people exposed to harsh, dry climates, pollution and is recommended for frequent travelers, stressed, devitalized skin. I was never one for milk cleansers but I did enjoy this one. It is thicker than the usual milk cleanser which has a watery consistency. I have this on my wishlist to get. The smallest size ($1.7 oz) retails for $22.

Crème Dermopurifiante – This purifying cream brightens and mattifies the skin, leaving it glowing and refreshed. It reduces redness caused by acne and regulates sebum secretion. The full size of this cream retails for $94.

Masque Vivant – For seborrheic (eczema), dull, and/or poorly toned skin. It is not recommended for sensitive skin. It claims to brighten, tone and refresh the complexion. Despite the yeasty smell, I enjoyed using this mask and am thinking of getting the full size. Full size retails for $70.

Crème Contour Yeux et Lèvres Biofixine – This is an anti-wrinkle cream created to treat the skin of the eye and lip. It is ideal for skin affected by the signs of aging. This was okay but I am not pressed to add it to my wishlist. The full size of this cream retails for $203.

I purchased the lotion from Toska European Spa. The links above are not affiliated.

Birthday Haul [365 to 40]

I picked up a few things for my birthday from Sephora in late March. Mainly to claim the yearly birthday gift before the month ended. I haven’t shopped much at Sephora over the past two years since I discovered Ulta and the Dermstore.

Haul included:
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer – I love a glossy lip and wanted to try at least one Rhinna created product. This universal shade is so pretty and definitely work appropriate.

I just bought this last week of March and it is now no longer on the site.
Set includes Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque, Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask, Ginger Leaf & Hibiscus Firming Mask, Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Mask & Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Mask. The prices do vary from $32 to $54.

Spring into a Glowing Skin Routine [365 to 40]

Spring is here, well trying to make it’s debut if the weather can make up its mind. Here is a great video on achieving glowing skin from a true skincare connoisseur Gothamista or Renee on YT and IG.

The above routine is ideal for dry sensitive skin but can be applied to other skin types especially during the winter months. Some of the products mentioned in the video are new to me and I have added them to my skincare wishlist such as:
(1) Ren Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk
(2) Tarte Knockout Tingling Treatment – Renee points out that is an affordable alternative to the Biologique Recherche P50, which I have in my routine.
(3) Blithe Vital Treatment Essence for Lifting ( 8 Nourishing Beans ) – a part of the intriguing 7 essence step that I have never heard of but will try with the May Coop Raw Sauce. I think the latter is of a similar consistency to the Blithe Vital.

I already use the Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution and Shiseido Facial Cottons.

This is an excellent video and the routine is simple enough to be incorporated in one’s own regime.

Sheet Masks on the Go – Work Trip Skincare

Whenever I travel for work, I always bring a sufficient number of sheet masks with me. For this particular 5 day work trip  I brought along 17 sheet masks and 2 tube masks (1 glycolic acid and 1 mud). The joys of checked luggage – it allows you to pack whatever you want. I used a few and some I left as a small thank you gift (tied with a bow) for the cleaning lady.

Sheet masks are a great way to take of and treat your skin while away especially after a plane ride. The air in the airport and plane usually dries out my skin, so as soon as I check into and get settled in my room, I cleanse, detoxify and mask. Masks specific for restore moisture and boosting hydration are the best after a flight e.g mask with green tea, bamboo, honey, aloe and hyaluronic acid. As the trip progresses with long days, I usually use masks that detoxifies  (mud & sheet masks with charcoal), brightens (pearl and rice) and repairs/treats (snail and tea tree).

[Review] Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

20160224_215836-2_resizedPaula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant rapidly exfoliates to unclog pores and improve skin’s appearance by acting on the skin’s surface and inside the pores.  The lightweight liquid formula allows for a faster, more gentle, exfoliation making it ideal for unclogging pores.

There is a great deal of research indicating that BHA (salicylic acid) drastically  of skin. Beta hydroxy acid (BHA) or Salicylic acid exfoliates skin to improve its texture (smooths the surface) and tone. It is the main ingredient in numerous acne products.

* 2% BHA unclogs & diminishes enlarged pores.
* Green tea extract calms redness.
* Dramatically improves skin’s texture for radiant, even-toned skin.
* Clinically proven to hydrate, brighten & smooth fine lines.

Key Ingredients: methylpropanediol, salicylic acid, green tea, BHA (beta hydroxy acid).

Product Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Methylpropanediol (slip agents/penetration enhancers), Butylene Glycol (slip agents/penetration enhancers), Salicylic Acid (beta hydroxy acid/exfoliant), Polysorbate 20 (solubilizing agent), Camellia Oleifera (Green Tea) Leaf Extract (anti-irritant/antioxidant), Sodium Hydroxide (pH balancer), Tetrasodium EDTA (chelating agent)

What does it do? Smooths out wrinkles, counteracts the effects of aging, tightens enlarged pores, reduces blackheads and redness.

How to Use: Apply once or twice daily after cleansing and toning. Lightly soak a cotton pad and apply over the entire face, including the eye area but avoid the lower lash line and eyelids. Do not rinse. If used during the daytime, follow up with a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 25 or greater.

Volume: 4.oz.

Where to Purchase: The Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant retails for $28 and can be purchased directly from Paula’s Choice, the SkinStore, the DermStore and QVC.

My Thoughts: I like this exfoliator and regard it as a second toner in my skin care routine. It is very mild and non-irritating and even those with sensitive skin will be able to use it with no issues. I had a few dry patches (winter induce skin issue). I use this at night as part of my East-meets-West skin care routine. BHA is now more commonly used in many non-acne products as it is very effecting in reducing wrinkles and improving the texture of aging skin. I will continue to use this more or less until it is finished to truly access the results but so far no issues and my skin continues to improve daily.

Key Benefits:
Diminishes fine lines & wrinkles, nourishes, hydrates, tightens the under eye area, brightens dark circles and reduces puffiness.

4. Organic Rosehip Oil: Provides intense hydration to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
5. Arnica: A key anti-inflammatory agent to the restorative process that works to diminish the appearance of dark circles.

How to Use: After cleansing, apply True Glow gently around the area under the eye dabbing the skin with your ring finger in a circular motion around the orbital bone and moving towards the nose bridge. Apply twice a day.

My Thoughts: I like this eye cream for its texture and the fact that it does not have a strong citrus (Vitamin C) scent. It is very creamy and absorbs very quickly (see images below). I did notice that the area around my eye was softer, well hydrated and moisturized after use. It was a bit difficult to assess the improvements if any of the wrinkles and fine lines as the area around my eyes is very, very dry. I also noticed that the puffiness was reduced when applied in the mornings. Overall, I like this eye cream and will add it to my skincare regimen.

Ultra_Plumping_Hydration_Mask_with_BoxKey Benefits: Boosts collagen production, increases skin radiance, reduces fine lines, locks in moisture and reveals softer smoother skin.

Key Ingredients:
1. Silk Protein Amino Acid Blend: These natural miracles increase moisture content and help in the production of collagen and elastin which decreases the appearance of visible lines.
2. Botanical Hyaluronic Acid:Penetrates deep into the skin to secure moisture and plump skin from within.
3.  Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil: An anti-aging wonder berry that results in fewer fine lines, diminished sun spots, more even skin tone, and firmer more supple skin.

How To Use: Apply to face evenly avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 15-30 minutes. Wipe it off with a damp cloth and warm water.

My Thoughts: This is not only a very hydrating but very plumping mask. It tingles for the first 5 minutes as indicated on the on the jar. It may be a bit too much if you have very sensitive skin or areas of dry patches (as I did with the latter). This mask can be applied with a brush or the fingers. I prefer to put a bit on the cover (just turn it upside down and shake) and use a brush such as the ELF synthetic foundation brush ($1) so as not to contaminate the jar. Once dried it looks transparent. After removal with a warm rag my face is noticeably brighter and softer. I am happy to add this mask to my mask collection as I do not have one of this consistency and function.

Would I repurchase? Yes. I always have at least six on hand just in case. This is a great mask that fits like a glove. It is definitely soothing as it does not burn, sting or tingle. I keep this on for at least 30 minutes, after which my skin is noticeably brighter an smoother. Any redness and irritation due to dry flaky skin is tamed. I am not really a fan of hydrogel masks but the Freeset Donkey Milk masks are thin and fit perfectly to the contours of the face. I do not need to cut the nose bridge or adjust the eye slits.
