Spring into a Glowing Skin Routine [365 to 40]

Spring is here, well trying to make it’s debut if the weather can make up its mind. Here is a great video on achieving glowing skin from a true skincare connoisseur Gothamista or Renee on YT and IG.

The above routine is ideal for dry sensitive skin but can be applied to other skin types especially during the winter months. Some of the products mentioned in the video are new to me and I have added them to my skincare wishlist such as:
(1) Ren Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Milk
(2) Tarte Knockout Tingling Treatment – Renee points out that is an affordable alternative to the Biologique Recherche P50, which I have in my routine.
(3) Blithe Vital Treatment Essence for Lifting ( 8 Nourishing Beans ) – a part of the intriguing 7 essence step that I have never heard of but will try with the May Coop Raw Sauce. I think the latter is of a similar consistency to the Blithe Vital.

I already use the Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution and Shiseido Facial Cottons.

This is an excellent video and the routine is simple enough to be incorporated in one’s own regime.

Sephora + Pantone Universe ‘Color of the Year’ – Marsala [review & swatches]

I’ve had this post in my draft folder since March and I figured it was time to post it. This is the second year that I picked up the Color of the Year blush/highlighter palette. This year Sephora and Pantone teamed up and released ‘Marsala’. Marsala is described as  “A naturally robust and earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and souls”.  Marsala is an absolutely gorgeous color for a blush. Sephora has curated a collection of ‘Marsala’ inspired/themed products which is still up online here

Marsala Cheek trio: Spanish Villa (2.9g), Coral Pink (2.9g) and Marsala (4.8g).

Once again another gorgeous palette. You can see my thoughts on last year’s Radiant Orchid palette. The blush and luminizers are very finely milled and a little goes a very long way. I think Marsala is perfect for every skin tone, anytime of the year. As with last year’s release this palette should be used with a delicate hand  as only the slightest tap of the brush is needed. It lasts 8+ hours, it applies smoothly and is very blendable. This year’s palette only has one repeat highlighter “Spanish Villa’. I really wished they had not repeated this shade and actually made an effort to be unique.  Unfortunately, this palette was limited edition and is no longer available but retailed for $26. I can’t wait to see that next year’s color will be.

Bite Beauty Watercolor LipGloss Library – Review & Swatches

20150719_003449~2 20150719_003459~2

A delicate palette of ethereal shades inspired by the beauty of watercolor.  A range composed of twelve soft shades for a beautiful translucent wash of color and alluring shine. Each sheer gloss provides hydrating properties that will leave your lips lush and supple. BITE Beauty is created with natural and food-grade ingredients for beauty that’s better for you. BITE Beauty lip products do not contain parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, phthalates and are certified gluten-free.

This set of glossed were originally available April 7th for VIB Rouges and April 16th in-stores (Sephora). I purchased this set on sale on July 12th for $24.00 (12 x 0.05 oz. / 0.60 oz. or 1.40g total). Original price was $49.00. As of today, the 19th, it is no longer available at Sephora.com. I like these gloss libraries that BITE Beauty releases once a year. Last year I picked up the DECONSTRUCTED ROSE LIP GLOSS LIBRARY and really liked it and the rose scent. This year’s library of glosses is not as fragrant as the other. The scent is hard to describe primarily because there is hardly one but it is slight floral/fruity. Extremely mild. The formula is slightly thicker than most glosses but is not sticky. Over all I like these glosses and although I will not wear them all (two, four, five, six are out) I will enjoy them.

MAKE UP FOREVER AQUA CREAM #27 – SWATCH/REVIEW

I have been looking for a black stay all day eyeshadow base and decided to try Make Up Forever’s Aqua Cream  Black (no.27) . This ultra pigmented waterproof cream product can be used as either an eyeshadow base or long-lasting stand alone shadow.  No 27 gives a rich black finish that is buildable, transform shadows placed on top, lasts all day and can be applied with the fingertip or a synthetic brush.

Collective Sephora Haul [May – June – July 2014]

I shop at Sephora so much that before the year ends I will purchase stocks in this company. Over the past 5 years I’ve shopped in store only three times and have never had a good experience (they need to revamp the customer service training). Maybe that’s why so many people shop online as poor service has nothing to do with the individual brands.

20140618_212554-11. Samples (loved all of them except this BVLGARI Omnia, also got the nail kit and love the Jose Maran Bear Naked polish wipes I got the full size) + Elizabeth and James Nirvana White perfume (100pt product) + Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I’ve wanted this for ever and I finally decided to just get it and I love it. My skin tone is very dark and I love using all three in the right way and places to get that glow.  The one everyone swears you’ll see, true words.

20140609_203236-12. Samples + Make Up For Ever 5 Camouflage/Concealer Cream Palette in No. 4 dark ) still on the fence with this one + fresh SUGAR Lip Trio (gifted the scrub but love the treatment and advance therapy balm) + 100pt Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector (still on the fence about this primer) + beautyblender Solid blender cleanser (love it and will repurchase).

20140629_001402-13. Samples ( in addition to the regular ones I got the gwp Algenist 10day anti-aging cream challenge – so far I’m loving it, I use it twice/pay and my skin is so supple. As of this post I’m on day 6) + First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (this multi-purpose cream is very soothing for various skin issues, after many samples I finally decided to get it) + Sephora Collection Ultimate Brightening Serum (I think Sephora’s own brand is one of the most under rate in the cosmetics world. No one really talks about the skincare and staple makeup products. I watched a few YT video reviews from women of color on this serum and they really liked it and that it actually does lighten dark spots. I have been using it for 6 days but will use for at least 30 before reviewing but so far so good) + Anatasia DIPBROW Pomade in Dark Brown (I decided to see what the hype was about still on the fence, dark brown the 3rd darkest is too dark for my liking but the the other 4 shades are either too red, dark or light) + Sephora Collection MicroSmooth Baked Luminizer in Stardust and Light Beam (gorgeous!!! I was planning on getting the very raved about Becca Shimmering Pressed Skin Perfector but stumbled across these and I love them. They are so luminous and finely milled Stardust gives a golden glow while  Light Beam is more pink.

20140705_142719-1-14. Samples (mostly shampoo and conditioner, a REN Glycolic mask) + the new Tarte Fall 2014 Eye and Cheek palette (see my review here) + Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask + Jose Maran Bear Naked Nail Wipes (one acetone free wipe removes polish from all 10 nails?? It’s TRUE it actually does. I got a sample tried it and had to buy the full size).

20140504_132714-15. I love perfume and I have a lot (hey there are 365 days in a year and everyday is open to a new experience). I got the Jennifer Aniston for my mom and the rest for myself. I already have this scent and I love it, it reminds me of growing up in Jamaica (you can see my review here). Atelier Cologne Deluxe Miniature Duo in Orange Sanguine and Vanille Insensée. philosophy’s Living Grace Body Oil  – Living Grace is my signature philosophy scent. I just found out they have a whipped body cream and olive oil scrub. I must add these to my LG collection. I also picked up Stella McCartney’s soft rose fragrance Stella, Dolce & Gabanna The One, and Michael Kors Signature Coffret.

TARTE Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette – Review & Swatches

20140705_144036-1 20140705_144101-1

This limited edition palette has been inspired by the rain forest’s deep orchid hues at dusk. Infused with colored clay, which naturally color-corrects as it supports oil control and specifically addresses individual skin & complexion concerns.
Color Clays: rose – soothes skin around the eye area makeup provides longer wear and truer color payoff, vanilla – helps control oil to keep pigment in place, gold – maintains gentle skin balance and moisture. Tarte’s innovative technologies is sourced from the Brazil and glides on and delivers rich color—without settling into fine lines and wrinkles.

From left to right: Champagne (highlighter), Park Ave Princess (bronzer) & Unleashed (blush).
The highlighter is very pretty and can work as a shadow too. The bronzer a lot lighter and way more matte than the one I already have and its online description of a highly pearled light yellow gold. It will work perfectly as a transitional crease color. The blush is described as a nude rose. This was a very hard to swatch and does not seem pigmented.

20140705_144712-1

The shadows from left to right: Bare to Explore (pink beige – a bit difficult to pick up the color), Make a Mauve (plum mauve – not seeing this color on my skin tone), Plum Away With Me (dark plum- very smooth and pigmented), Up to No Gold (gold – also well pigmented and very blendable), Tan-gled Up in You (tan), Don’t Turn A-Brown (dark brown – also difficult to swatch but is a nice multi purpose color).

Overall I am quite please with this palette and rewarded myself with it after purging quite a bit of un-used makeup from my collection.

BITE BEAUTY Deconstructed Rose Lip Gloss Library – Review & Swatches

The Deconstructed Rose Lip Gloss Library from BITE Beauty20140418_114124-1 20140418_114145-1 20140418_114410-1

These glosses have numbers instead of names e.g. one, three, ten etc., and range from of, light pinks to deep purple reds. Each gloss is 0.05 oz is created with natural and food-grade ingredients.

Key Ingredients:
Trans-Resveratrol – is a stilbenoid (natural phenol) and a phytoalexin (a defense chemical naturally produced by some plants when exposed to pathogens. It is also found in the skin of red grapes and in other fruits. Many studies have recently been published touting resveratrol as the new it ‘chemical’ that will help with premature ageing.

These glosses are rose scented, some reviews of these glosses complain of the rose scent. I personally love the rose and this library has two key rose ingredients.
Rosa Damascena – The Damask Rose or the Rose of Castile, most likely its essential oil.
Rose Glacia – I could not find any information on this.
