Birthday Haul [365 to 40]

I picked up a few things for my birthday from Sephora in late March. Mainly to claim the yearly birthday gift before the month ended. I haven’t shopped much at Sephora over the past two years since I discovered Ulta and the Dermstore.

Haul included:
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer – I love a glossy lip and wanted to try at least one Rhinna created product. This universal shade is so pretty and definitely work appropriate.

Kiehl’s Since 1851 Mini Mask Sampler Set – I have been eyeing the Kiehls mask individually for quite a while now but didn’t want to spend a lot for such large jars.  This sampler set is perfect and each 0.5oz jar provides enough for a few routines. I just bought this last week of March and it is now no longer on the site.
Set includes Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque, Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask, Ginger Leaf & Hibiscus Firming Mask, Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Mask & Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Mask. The prices do vary from $32 to $54.

Sheet Masks Part I

My love for sheet masks continue. You can see my constant sheet mask posts on my Instagram @beausci2010

I have found a few new sheet mask online retailers and purchased masks from a few new brands. Of the masks in this post my favorite brands are the My Beauty Diary (Taiwanese), Maskingdom (Taiwanese), Freeset Doneky Milk (Korean) and Love More (Taiwanese).

Keep Calm and Mask On!!!

Current Makeup Wishlist – Chanel ROUGE COCO GLOSS

My current makeup wishlist is not very extensive. I only have one brand (Chanel) and one product type (Rouge Coco Gloss) that I really want and am very interested in. The new reformulated, non-sticky, ultra-light formula will leave the lips visibly smooth and plump. The new glosses also boast an new innovative, dual-sided applicator to ensure optimal and even coverage and high precision. The are currently 24 shades to choose from. I have my eye on two in particular:

The new glossimers are enriched with Coconut Oil, Peptides and Vitamin E, and a Hydraboost Complex (exclusive to Chanel). This new formula claims to offer hours of comfort and moisture. I’ve seen reviews where people say the new glosses are a vast improvement over the old formula.

Clarins Multi-Blush in Rose [Review]

Clarins Multi-Blush in Rose (no. 05). This is a natural, long-lasting blush for lips and cheek. It glides on with the ease of a cream that then transforms into a powder with the heat of one’s skin. Not sure how this powdery feature will work on the lips.
It moisturizes the skin with a blend of rose, mimosa and sunflower waxes. Also, has a ‘Light Optimizing’ complex that adds radiance. The blush is not quite the best as a blush for my skin tone but could be used with a light hand as a pink highlighter.

Clarins and FEED 10

Clarins has teamed up with Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED again for a great initiative,  National Million Meal Mission.

Clarins and FEED are proud to have launched the National Million Meal Mission. This new, exciting venture aims to provide 1,200,000 meals to children around the world in 17 days. This campaign started on April 22nd, and will end this coming Sunday, May 8th. Retailers supporting this great cause are Macy’s, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales. Each will be offering will be offering a variety of  FEED 10 pouches filled with deluxe Clarins products. The FEED pouches are available at least online at Macy’s, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Saks depending on what you purchase. Bloomingdale’s – with the purchase of any two full-size Clarins products; Nordstrom – with your $75 purchase; Macy’s – any $75 Clarins purchase. They are most likely available in store as well.
This is a great cause and I encourage everyone to pick up a FEED pouch. Food insecurity is a growing problem in developed countries can you imagine how hard it is for children in poorer countries to receive proper and sufficient nutrition. If you can’t pick up a bag you can still help by volunteering at your local food bank and food drives.

To date Clarins has provided over 10 million meals through the FEED initiative. That’s 10, 109,165 meals to be exact. Clarins strongly believes that beauty come from the heart and is expressed by actions directed to helping those less fortunate.

Valentia’s Royal Rose Hydrating Serum

“This lightweight and hydrating serum was specially crafted with rose petals from the fragrant Damask Rose. This essential oil has long been regarded as more precious than gold for its natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties. In combination with other skin friendly oils, Bearberry, Lavender and Primrose, chosen to soothe and brighten the skin. Our Royal Rose Hydration Serum will nourish, soothe, calm and cool the skin for a more refreshed and youthful look and feel.” (Valentia). Lavender – Heals the skin, pimples, wounds, and sores.

How To Use:  Apply 1-2 pumps evenly to face and neck each evening after cleansing skin thoroughly. After absorption, follow with moisturizer and eye product of choice.

My Thoughts: First this serum has the most gorgeous rose scent ever. This serum is ideal for those with sensitive and/or dry skin. It is so gentle and soothing that it will not cause any irritation especially if one has dry, cracked skin. It is made from the petal oils of the Pink Damask Rose. It absorbs super quickly and does not leave any residue. On the weekend when I am not ‘going anywhere’ I use it as a  moisturizer. It is that hydrating and refreshing.

It is silicone, paraben, and alcohol free in addition to the other great aspects shown in the image below.

Valentia – True Glow Eye Cream & Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask Review

“This nourishing formula works fast to repair and refresh the eye area while protecting skin from the usual suspects of aging. Our natural and organic ingredients work to calm and reduce puffiness in the eye area revealing softer, more refreshed looking eyes. With continued use of this antioxidant treatment, you will start noticing a more rejuvenated, radiant, and brighter under eye area.” (Valentia). True Glow Eye Cream (1.18 fl. oz bottle) retails between $25 – $54.99 on or

Key Benefits:
Diminishes fine lines & wrinkles, nourishes, hydrates, tightens the under eye area, brightens dark circles and reduces puffiness.

Key Ingredients:
1. Astaxanthin: A powerful antioxidant that increases moisture levels, smooths fine line and wrinkles, and restores elasticity to the skin.
2. Resistem: Natural Plant Stem Cells repair and protect the skin from harsh environmental pollutants and stress-related aging.
3. Vitamin C: Leaves the skin smooth and visibly brighter for a well-rested and bright eyed look.
4. Organic Rosehip Oil: Provides intense hydration to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
5. Arnica: A key anti-inflammatory agent to the restorative process that works to diminish the appearance of dark circles.

How to Use: After cleansing, apply True Glow gently around the area under the eye dabbing the skin with your ring finger in a circular motion around the orbital bone and moving towards the nose bridge. Apply twice a day.

My Thoughts: I like this eye cream for its texture and the fact that it does not have a strong citrus (Vitamin C) scent. It is very creamy and absorbs very quickly (see images below). I did notice that the area around my eye was softer, well hydrated and moisturized after use. It was a bit difficult to assess the improvements if any of the wrinkles and fine lines as the area around my eyes is very, very dry. I also noticed that the puffiness was reduced when applied in the mornings. Overall, I like this eye cream and will add it to my skincare regimen.

The perfect answer to your dry skin problems. The Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask retails between $25 – $54.99 (4 oz jar) on or

Ultra_Plumping_Hydration_Mask_with_BoxKey Benefits: Boosts collagen production, increases skin radiance, reduces fine lines, locks in moisture and reveals softer smoother skin.

Key Ingredients:
1. Silk Protein Amino Acid Blend: These natural miracles increase moisture content and help in the production of collagen and elastin which decreases the appearance of visible lines.
2. Botanical Hyaluronic Acid:Penetrates deep into the skin to secure moisture and plump skin from within.
3.  Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil: An anti-aging wonder berry that results in fewer fine lines, diminished sun spots, more even skin tone, and firmer more supple skin.
4. Japanese Green Tea:Contains catechins that provide anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and anti-irritant effects to the skin.
4. Aloe Vera:This botanical moisturizers skin and fight aging by improving skin firmness.

How To Use: Apply to face evenly avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 15-30 minutes. Wipe it off with a damp cloth and warm water.

My Thoughts: This is not only a very hydrating but very plumping mask. It tingles for the first 5 minutes as indicated on the on the jar. It may be a bit too much if you have very sensitive skin or areas of dry patches (as I did with the latter). This mask can be applied with a brush or the fingers. I prefer to put a bit on the cover (just turn it upside down and shake) and use a brush such as the ELF synthetic foundation brush ($1) so as not to contaminate the jar. Once dried it looks transparent. After removal with a warm rag my face is noticeably brighter and softer. I am happy to add this mask to my mask collection as I do not have one of this consistency and function.

Hard Candy So Baked Bronzer in Hula Hula – review & swatches

I purchased  this bronzer with the sole purpose of using it as a highlighter. It is absolutely gorgeous. I use is a few times a week. This bronzer is baked on a terracotta pan to create a beautiful domed product. Hula Hula gives the complexion a hint of bronzed color for a sun-kissed look. This bronzer appears to be shimmery or dewy but is actually matte so it does not make the skin appear shiny when applied. One just glows. This is gorgeous on tanned to dark skin. It is soft and blends easily into the skin. It typically retails for $9.00 and can be found almost everywhere even the grocery store.

Exploring the World of Cosmetic Skin Tightening

Have you ever considered a cosmetic skin tightening treatment? If you have maybe you’ve put it off because you thought this meant getting a facelift. Well, there are actually many more solutions to sagging skin and wrinkles than a facelift. But therein lies the problem. There are so many treatments being offered on the market today that the world of skin tightening can be quite confusing. Here are two main solutions:

One of the  milder treatments involve treating the affected area with sound waves. There are different types of sound wave therapies available, including ultrasound and radiofrequency waves which both work in a similar manner. The sound waves are targeted to the areas of concern. Skin reacts by tightening as the fat cells are systematically shrunk which leads to the  production of more collagen and other healthy “building blocks” of cells. One of the great thing about sound wave therapy is that it is basically painless and no side effects.
Another mild treatment option is to use a mild laser. It’s important to note that laser devices do range from milder to intensive. The milder varieties can be readily used to spot-treat minor wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. They are nice for treating the problem right when it starts, but you might need to take the next steps in wrinkle and skin sag control, if you are beyond that point.

The second category of stronger treatment solutions include the use of strong laser devices, such as YAG lasers. These stronger devices are capable of tackling more intense skin problems. They are more versatile than facelift surgery because they can be used on multiple body parts. Although they are versatile, strong lasers may not always be the perfect option for every person. Some of these devices can be particularly problematic if on has darker skin. Treatments could cause hyperpigmentation which would be another skin care concern requiring additional treatment.  Preexisting issues such as oily or very dry skin can exacerbate the treated areas.

It’s fairly easy to exclude certain skincare procedures and narrow things down on your own to determine if skin tightening is for you. Just ask yourself how bad your wrinkles and sagging are, what is your skin type type of skin, and how willing you are to undergo the procedures. Once you have done some research and gathered all your facts and questions, you should consult a doctor or a dermatologist. They can offer additional insights and go through the information you have gathered. Together, you can create a skin tightening treatment plan that will allow you to maintain healthy looking skin for as long as possible.
